Challenge
The customer builds pumps for different applications. For this purpose, punched and riveted U-laminations were previously welded together. An O-shape is created. This is drilled to accommodate the pump shaft. The percentage of rejects and the error rate are high.
Approach
SWD introduces the advantages of bonded stacks. Trials are carried out with sample stacks. The riveted, U-shaped lamination stack with welding is replaced. An O-shape stack is now bonded. Thanks to its high strength, no welding or riveting is required. The bonded lamination stack can be drilled directly. We have further improved the strength during bonding and introduced a new type of testing procedure.
Success
The bonded stacks have completely eliminated the welding process. Drilling in bonded lamination stacks with their high strength is no problem. In addition, the lamination stack is visible and gives the pump a “high-tech” touch. Today, the pump is being mass-produced and the customer is very satisfied.
