SWD minimizes CO2 emissions

Reducing CO₂ emissions is a major challenge for humanity and a core task for industry. SWD AG Stator- und Rotortechnik has long been committed to new technologies that require less material and therefore result in lower CO₂ emissions. Prominent examples include segmentation and axial flux motors, which increase the utilization of the electrical sheet material, or components in bonding varnish (Backlack) that take on additional functions or are more precise, thus requiring fewer components in the electric motor. These technologies will become increasingly important in the future.

We support our customers in this transformation and, at the same time, we are also reducing CO₂ emissions in our own production. For example, we have switched all of our electricity to Hydropower Europe, we heat our buildings with heat pumps, and we have installed solar panels. In 2023, we completely replaced our current process cooling system with a new and more efficient generation.

This means that from 2024, we will still have the following CCO₂ emitters in Scope 1 and 2:

• Internal transport vehicles are all electric, included in electricity consumption
• Heating for production via air heat pump, included in electricity consumption
• Heating of office space via heat pump (included in electricity consumption) and low heating oil share of 2.5 tons. CO₂ equivalent per year
• Compressed air generation included in electricity consumption
• Air heat pump leakage of 13 tons to be calculated according to the GHG Protocol. CO₂ equivalent per year and depending on process cold of 0.3 tons. CO₂ equivalent per year
• Electricity purchased, 100% Hydropower Europe with guarantee of origin, 22 tons. CO₂equivalent per year

The currently remaining emissions from Scope 1 and 2 that cannot be prevented amount to a rounded 38 tons per year. For this reason, we have decided to support projects through Swiss Climate’s “Gold Standard” with a reduction of 60 tons of CO₂ starting this year.

We are also working together with material manufacturers to reduce Scope 3 emissions.
